The theologian of hope
Jürgen Moltmann showed us how to hold grief and hope together
Jurgen Moltmann died just a few days ago. The name might be unfamiliar but he is rightly regarded as one of most influential theologians of the twentieth century. His first widely acclaimed book, “A Theology of Hope” made the front page of the New York Times. Raised in a non-religious household in pre-WW2 Germany, he and his parents would garden together on Sunday mornings instead of going to Church.
